Quotes on Saving Lives

The famous Dakini in Tibet, Kunzang Chodron, said from her personal experience (in travelling in the bardos) in the text “Synthesis of Profound Paths, Dakini’s Ear Whispered Lineage of Profound Meaning – Lotus Heart Essence”:

All high noble people or common ordinary folks

For the Dharma practice leading to peace and happiness in this and future lives

nothing surpasses the act of saving lives

The merit of circumambulating the entire continent of Dzambuling (Earth)

is equivalent to saving the life of one calf

The merit of reciting 700 million Mani mantras

is equivalent to saving the life of one young cow

I have seen this for myself in the realm of the Lord of Death

Do not forget this Dakini’s words

Assiduously saving the lives of cows, calves and others

is limitlessly meritorious!

The great Tibetan Master Kunzang Chodrak said, “Stop all killing and protect the lives of others, among all virtues of body and speech, the merit of saving lives is supreme.”

The Ksitigarbha Ten-Wheel Sutra states, “If one always avoid killing, beings will love and respect you. One enjoys good health, longevity and delights in not harming others. In all places, one will continually rejoice in the Buddha’s activities, meet frequently with the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha and swiftly attain unsurpassed enlightenment.”
