From the Advice of Thundering Roar

HH Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche

This human life is the result of many lives of diligent virtue. Avoid wasting it in distractions, practice Dharma to attain liberation.

Death comes in an instant, when it comes no one knows; without much preparation for future lives, will dying regretfully be of any use?

Cause and effect will ripen without fail even eons later; be careful with even the slightest acts, do not underestimate them, instead keep deep faith (in cause and effect).

A thousand ferocious fire-storms is mild compared to the sufferings in samsara; feeling disillusioned, without any delay, gain the peace of liberation through developing excellent qualities.

The Triple Gems are undeceiving, rely upon them with firm faith; carry out the great aspiration of attaining Buddhahood to liberate beings limitless as space.

All gathered possessions are like an ephemeral rainbow, strong desires are the causes of lower realms;  give generously to many needy beings — complete your accumulation of merits through offerings and charity.

Although we are mediocre beings with heavy sins that increase endlessly, filling a thousand oceans, without applying the four powers of purification, we think highly of ourselves—nothing but self-deception.

The Buddhas of the past, present and future were unable to tame beings like us. The compassionate teacher who manifested and did not abandon us is truly the protector whose kindness cannot be measured.

Accumulation of countless deities’ mantras cannot compare to the merit of praying to the Guru with devotion even once.  Practice this path of great meaning.

Attaining the rainbow body in one life without needing to undergo great exertions or hardships — the key to such effortless accomplishment is unpretending faith and respect for the Guru, just like a field of seeds producing crops through the moisture and warmth (of faith).

Food, wealth, possessions, spouse, children and so forth— all treasured objects — offer them to the Guru, carry out his instructions without cowardice, striving in this hardship will result in benefit for oneself and others.

My dear heart friends who accompany me, listen again!  The essential points of 84000 Dharmas are faith and compassion—just these two qualities are treasures that will bring great benefit.

Otherwise, holy teachings and termas are as numerous as stars in the sky, like various different flavors of sweets, one who doesn’t take hold of the essential points will labor in vain.

I am naturally of low wisdom, my practice is slack and lacks diligence. My words are lacking rich meaning that can delight others.  I can only offer this advice to urge your minds.

All merits accumulated in the three times are dedicated to beings limitless as space. May all accomplish the throne of 10 powers and 27 activities.
