Manjushri Praise - Unchanging Auspiciousness

 


About this Manjushri statue
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche:

Mipham Rinpoche used to say that, in general, whenever he embarked on the composition of a text, a ray of light would come from the heart of the statue (in above picture) he had of Manjushri, his yidam deity, the support for his practice. 

The light would sink into his heart and without the slightest impediment, he would write down whatever arose spontaneously in his mind. Sometimes from the end of the ray of light coming from Manjushri’s heart he would see the glittering form of the letters of which the texts would be composed. 

In the case of some of the prayers, for example, the prayer Unchanging Auspiciousness, the statue would come to life as Manjushri, who would recite the prayer himself. On such occasions, Manjushri would give Mipham Rinpoche many prophetic messages. Precious Lama Ösel (Mipham Rinpoche’s attendant) said that this was something he heard directly with his own ears.

(This praise is appended at the end of this post.  All beings with the karmic fortune should recite it often to increase one's wisdom. )

This image of Manjushri moreover had come naturally into Mipham’s possession once when he had gone to Dzagyal and in a particularly auspicious circumstance. And since that moment, he had constantly taken it as the support for his practice and had it with him at all times. All his achievements in teaching, debate, and composition, he said, arose through the blessing power of this image.

Mipham Rinpoche prized it above all things, regarding it as in no way different from Manjushri himself. At a later time, after Mipham’s death, and according to the wishes expressed in his testament, this sublime image was kept in the temple of Kshitigarbha at Shechen Tennyi Dargye Ling. It was placed in the heart of a statue of Manjushri, which precious Lama Ösel, lord of Dharma, had himself made. When he placed it there, a copious shower of amrita fell. 

This statue was of an incomparable splendor and numinous power. My primordial lord, Shechen Gyaltsap Rinpoche, the heart son of Mipham Rinpoche, recounted how, when he wanted to put in order the Trilogy of the Uncontrived Mind, he at first encountered some difficulties in the organization of the texts. He therefore made many offerings and fervent prayers before the statue containing Mipham relics, and as a result, an unmistaken wisdom was born in his mind so that he was able to complete his task.

Many other stories were told about that statue. Mipham Rinpoche said that when he was performing the visualization and recitation of the deities in his meditative practices as mentioned earlier, it was as though the statue became indistinguishable from the main deity in the mandalas. And it was through its blessing power that the creative force of his awareness would be stirred and the wisdom channels would open in such a way that many texts of sadhanas and praises would burst out from the expanse of his wisdom.

Once when the great accomplished siddha Shakya Shri was a young man, he went to Dzongsar to pay a visit to the omniscient Jamyang Khyentse. On his way, he passed by Karmo Taktsang in order to see Mipham Rinpoche, coming into his presence just as he was granting the empowerment of the creative power of awareness associated with the wisdom deity Manjushri—using the very statue that was the support for his practice. 

As Shakya Shri reported to Lama Ösel Rinpoche, the foremost of Mipham’s disciples, it was thanks to this that he was able to progress in his meditative experiences and realization, going on to actualize the exhaustion of phenomena in the state of awareness and emptiness (fourth vision of Togal in Dzogchen).

When a severe black pox disease broke out in a region, the Manjushri statue in the Dharma lord Mipham Rinpoche's reliquary took on the pox disease, which stopped the epidemic.

The Three Jewels are unchanging auspiciousness

གང་ལས་བྱུང་ཞིང་འཕྲོ་བའི་གནས། །

GANG LAY JUNG ZHING THRO WAY NAY
To the source from whom all emanations arise

སྐྱབས་ཀྱི་དམ་པ་སྐྱབས་སུ་འོས། །

KYAB KYI DAM PA KYAB SU O
The sublime protector, I go for refuge --

འཇམ་དཔལ་དཔལ་དང་ལྡན་པའི་མཆོག ༡ །

JAM PAL PAL DANG DAN PAY CHOG (1)
Supreme Manjushri endowed with noble splendour

ཕྱོགས་དུས་འགྲོ་བའི་སྣང་ངོ་དང་། །

CHOG DU DRO WAY NANG NGO DANG
In accordance with appearances of sentient beings in space and time,

མཐུན་པར་སྒྱུ་མའི་གར་མཛད་ཀྱང་། །

THUN PAR GYU MAY GAR DZAD KYANG
You enact an illusory dance.

བརྟག་ན་ཤེས་བྱ་གང་དུ་ཡང་། །

TAG NA SHE JA GANG DU YANG
Yet, when examined, knowable objects are not at all

མི་གནས་ཁྱོད་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ལོ། ༢ །

MI NAY KHYOD LA CHAG TSHAL LO (2)
Existing anywhere, to you I pay homage.

ཞི་བའི་ནང་ན་ཞི་བ་སྟེ། །

ZHI WAY NANG NA ZHI WA TE
Peaceful of the peaceful

འཇམ་དཔལ་ཟུག་རྔུ་མེད་པའི་མཆོག །

JAM PAL ZUG NGU MED PAY CHOG
Manjushri’s supreme form is free from suffering.

མཁའ་ཁྱབ་སྙིང་རྗེ་ཆེན་པོའི་སྐུ། །

KHA KHYAB NYING JE CHEN PO’I KU
The kaya of all-pervading great compassion

གཞོན་ནུ་རོལ་པ་ཁྱོད་ཕྱག་འཚལ། ༣ །

ZHON NU ROL PA KHYOD CHAG TSHAL (3)
I pay homage to you — the display of (timeless) youth

ཁྲོ་བོའི་ནང་ན་ཁྲོ་བོ་སྟེ། །

THRO WO’I NANG NA THRO WO TE
Wrathful of the wrathful

ཐམས་ཅད་མཐར་བྱེད་གཤིན་རྗེའི་གཤེད། །

THAM CHAD THAR JED SHIN JE’I SHED
Yamantaka who destroys everything

སྲིད་ཞི་དབྱིངས་སུ་ཟ་བའི་ཞལ། །

SRID ZHI YING SU ZA WAY ZHAL
Devouring samsara and nirvana into basic space,

དུས་ཀྱི་དགྲ་ཆེན་ཁྱོད་ཕྱག་འཚལ། ༤ །

DU KYI DRA CHEN KHYOD CHAG TSHAL (4)
Great enemy of time—to you I pay homage.

སྣང་སྟོང་མི་ཕྱེད་རྡོ་རྗེའི་སྐུ། །

NANG TONG MI CHED DOR JE’I KU
Your vajra kaya is indivisible appearance and emptiness,

མ་ལུས་རྒྱལ་བའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་དངོས། །

MA LU GYAL WAY YE SHE NGO’
Embodiment of wisdom of all the victorious ones,

ཁྱབ་བདག་ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོ་ནི། །

KHYAB DAG KUN TU ZANG PO NI
All-pervading Lord Samantabhadra

འཇམ་དཔའི་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཁྱོད་ཕྱག་འཚལ། ༥ །

JAM PAY DOR JE KHYOD CHAG TSHAL (5)
Manjuvajra, to you I pay homage.

ཁྱོད་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་བསྟོད་བྱས་པའི། །

KHYOD LA CHAG TSHAL TOD JAY PAY
By the virtue of paying homage and praising you,

དགེ་བས་བྱང་ཆུབ་སྙིང་པོའི་བར། །

GE WAY JANG CHUB NYING PO’I BAR
From now until I attain the heart of Buddhahood

འཇམ་པའི་དཔལ་གྱི་ཡེ་ཤེས་འོད། །

JAM PAY PAL GYI YE SHE OD
May the wisdom light of Noble Manjushri,

སྙིང་གི་པདྨོར་སིམ་གྱུར་ཅིག ༦།

NYING GI PAD MOR SIM GYUR CHIG (6)
Dissolve in the lotus of my heart.

འཇམ་དཔལ་ཞི་ཁྲོའི་རྒྱུད་སྡེ་ཀུན་གྱི་ནི། །

JAM PAL ZHI THRO’I GYUD DE KUN GYI NI
Of all peaceful and wrathful tantras of Manjushri,

སྙིང་པོ་ཡོངས་སུ་དྲིལ་ཏེ་གང་བསྟོད་པ། །

NYING PO YONG SU DRIL TE GANG TOD PA
This praise combines all their essence

འཇམ་དཔལ་བསྟོད་པ་ཀུན་གྱི་ནང་ན་ནི། །

JAM PAL TOD PA KUN GYI NANG NA NI
This contains all praises to Manjushri.

སྙིང་ལ་གཙིགས་སུ་བྱ་བ་འདི་ལགས་སོ། །

NYING LA TSIG SU JA WA DI LAG SO
Cherish this well in your heart

མཁའ་ལྟར་ཟབ་ཅིང་རྒྱ་ཆེ་བའི་རྨད་བྱུང་རྟེན་འབྲེལ་གྱི་སྒོ་འཕར་ཀུན་ནས་འབྱེད་པའི་བསྟོད་པ་འདི་རབ་ཚེས་ཤིང་བྱི་ལོར་མི་ཕམ་པས་སྤེལ་བ་དགེ་ཞིང་བཀྲ་ཤིས་པ་མི་ཟད་རྟག་ཏུ་འཕེལ་བའི་རྒྱུར་གྱུར་ཅིག །ཨ་ཐཾ། མངྒ་ལཾ། །

This praise which fully opens the door of interdependence to amazing sky-like profundity and vastness was composed in the 15th Tibetan Rabjung Wood Mouse year by Mipham. May virtue and auspiciousness always increase endlessly. Atham. Mangalaṃ.
